Newly Reviewed – 1996 Champagnes
Dom Perignon"...the 1996 Salon has begun to soften and fill out. My latest bottles have been rich, generous and totally compelling in every way..."
"...[The 1996 Dom Perignon] remains a Champagne of fabulous elegance that will offer highly rewarding drinking for decades...
"
These are just a few of the accolades laid upon the 1996 Champagnes in a recent Wine Advocate retrospective. The vintage remains one of the greatest in recent memory and these latest reviews continue to confirm this is the case. New scores include upgrades for the 1996 Dom Perignon (now 97WA), the 1996 Krug (now 98WA, which further supports its 99WS review) and the 1996 Salon Le Mesnil (now 97+WA).
Along with the following five stars from the 1996 vintage, we've included a sampling of other highly regarded champagnes.
Take special note of Krug and Salon from the 1995 vintage and the luxurious double magnum of Krug Grande Cuvee which is signed by Olivier Krug.
